The Newmarket Historical Society Archives house over 6,000 records, including: historic photographs, postcards, drawings, rare documents, early maps, books, family and business histories, memorabilia, official Town Minutes, land grants and indentures from 1805, and one of Ontario’s most intact local newspaper collections of The Era.
We have recently completed Phase I of our exciting Archives Restoration Project, to rebuild the Archives into a fully serviceable and easy to navigate collection. Initially, 2,500 artifacts were identified for cataloguing and preservation. As of January 2025, over 6,000 items – a 140% increase from what we believed was housed within the Archives at the start of this project – have now been catalogued and entered into our Past Perfect System. These records have also been physically reorganized and stored in accordance with Archival standards to protect from wear and tear of the elements and have had mold and other decaying debris removed from precious records, to ensure their preservation.
Use the links below to access the Online Collection and read more about our Archival Policies. New entries are published each week as our team completes the required digitization and checks to ensure historical accuracy before publication.
